Georgia's Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS) includes an Accountability Profile for every public school and school system in the state. The Accountability Profile is composed of:
An absolute performance determination based on Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
A Performance Index based on annual growth in academic achievement as measured by statewide assessments.
Performance Highlights which provide recognition for schools and school systems based on academic related indicators.
This school's performance on the three components is presented below.

1) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)

School met AYP
School met criteria in 8 out of 8 areasTitle I SchoolImprovement Status: DistinguishedLink to full AYP report

2) Performance Index

The Performance Index includes two components for each public school that detail the Percentage of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards and the gain or loss of that percentage from the previous year.

The Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) awards those schools with the Highest Percentage of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards and those with the Greatest Gain in Percentage of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards.

Criteria were developed comparing the most recent two years of Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) (grades 1-8 in reading, English/language arts, math, social studies, and science) and/or the Georgia High School Graduation Test (grade 11 first time test takers - English/language arts, math, science, and social studies). Criteria were based on Full Academic Year (FAY) students.

The percentage of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards in the current year is 88.22%.
This percentage reflects a Gain over the prior year of 8.33%.
This change was at or above 89.69% of the elementary schools in Georgia.
Click Here for how the Performance Index is calculated

The Details of the criteria for getting awards will appear here.3) Performance Highlights

This information reflects the 2007-2008 State Report Cards data which includes data for all students, not just Full Academic Year (FAY) students. Performance Highlights list the academic measurements for this school that meet or exceed 80%.

How to get in touch w/Victims Assistance-Glynn?

Posted on Nov. 18 2008, 9:55 pm by circlers
Does anyone know how to get a hold of victim's assistance for Glynn county?  My son was assaulted and his backpack stolen and all his epilepsy medicine ($1200) worth of PPA epilepsy medicine stolen along with his laptop. He was hit in the head with a hammer when his back was turned.

Any help on how to get in touch with them is really important because we can't afford to buy the medicine and we just got it (we get three months at once) and it is 400 bucks a month. Brunswick police did't even tell us about it, nor did the brunswick hosp. We found out when I had to take him back to the ER in Waycross.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You might be a redneck if

Posted on Nov. 16 2008, 10:08 pm by michael111
We have enjoyed the redneck jokes for years. It's time to take a reflective look at the core beliefs of a culture that values home, family, country and God. If I had to stand before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up. Tire irons, squirrel guns and grit -- that's what rednecks are made of. I hope I am one of those. If you feel the same, pass this on to your redneck friends. Ya'll know who ya' are.

You might be a redneck if: It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, 'One nation, under God.'

You might be a redneck if: You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places.

You might be a redneck if: You still say Christmas' instead of 'Winter Festival.'

You might be a redneck if: You bow your head when someone prays.

You might be a redneck if: You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem.

You might be a redneck if: You treat our armed forces veterans with great respect and always have.

You might be a redneck if: You've never burned an American flag, nor intend to.

You might be a redneck if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

You might be a redneck if: You respect your elders and raised your kids to do the same.

You might be a redneck if: You'd give your last dollar to a friend.

If you got this email from me, it is because I believe that you, like me, have just enough redneck in you to have the same beliefs as those talked about in this email.

God Bless the USA !!!!!!!!

Hortense

Posted on Nov. 14 2008, 10:46 pm by MLC
Trying to find out where the name Hortense came from My dad use to get a letter every so often from an indian that stated Hortense was named after his ancestor which was an indian princess. I cannot find any material to back it up. Research shows a Hortense lady in Charleston that dated the general that Wayne county was named after, maybe. Any suggestions?

Pleae help

Posted on Nov. 14 2008, 10:26 am by Mandi
I have found a couple of animals and we cannot keep them. We have already taken in 1 stray and due to the ages of my kids (1 and 3) I cannot keep anymore.

We found a little puppy in the way to Chruch the other day and he is really sweet. He needs shots and working but we have fed him and put some weight on him. By his paws he looks to be a medium size dog. He really wants to come inside and totally loves my kids. He needs a good loving home that can take care of him through the cold months ahead. He is white and has the cutest eyeliner around both eyes. Please let me know if you can help this sweet boy. I just couldnt leave him on the side of the road.

I also have a really sweet kitten. Its not tiny but still young. Gray striped and very sweet. He would also LOVE to come inside. I do know that he knows how to use a litter box because I brought him in during the bad hurricane weather. He really loves the dogs so if you have dogs and they wont chase him then you will have two best friends. All he wants is to curl up with the dogs and sleep witht hem at night ;0) I can email pictures.

Please  help me give these animals a better home. They were both picked up on the side of the road and have had a hard start already.

Thanks

Coach Picklesimer's Mom

Posted on Nov. 14 2008, 7:55 am by KATHYHH

A note from Coach...

I just want to thank you all for all the effort and help in getting my Mom in the nursing home at Bayview. She loved it and I can't
think of anyplace on this earth more enjoyable than Brantley County, it is truely God's Country. We are sorting through the paper work and have to go make arrangements so I won't get a chance to really visit much in Nahunta, but we do want you to know, that you made her very happy with getting her in Bayview, and if you could I would love for you to thank Denise and Dara and Gloria, God has not put any finer Angels on this earth than the Sears family.

Again thank you so much, words cannot express what you did for our family and my Mom, God Bless and keep you, may his goodness and mercy shine down on you and may you reap the blessings you so deserve forever. Love You

Coach, Sadie Picklesimer, Stefanie, Dane and the Studstill family.

Want to help?

Posted on Nov. 13 2008, 8:57 pm by hstrick46
I teach kids with severe emotional problems,  It takes a lot to get them interested in education.  They avoid reading like the plague and are intimidated by math.  Some of them have expressed an interest in learning to play guitar.  I can show them the chords as a reward for completing assignments.  The problem is, I don't have any guitars for them to practice on.

If you have an old guitar laying around your house gathering dust, would you please donate it?  Just let me know and we'll make arrangements to pick it up.

Thank you.

Heron Highlights

Posted on Nov. 13 2008, 8:02 pm by HeronHighlights
Heron Highlights (11/12) is a weekly column to communicate positive things happening at Brantley County High School.

If you have questions, comments, suggestions or story ideas, please contact Mrs. Cummings at 462-5121 or email amy.cummings@brantley.k12.ga.us.

Quote of the Week

“The more credit you give away, the more will come back to you. The more you help others, the more they will want to help you.”

                                                             Brian Tracy

Needy Seniors

We still have seniors who are unable to afford their senior expenses.  If you are willing to make a cash donation please contact Ms. Hammond or Mrs. Cummings (462-5121). Any extra funds collected will go to towards purchasing other senior items (yearbook, senior shirt, announcement, memory book, and tassel).  Ms. Hammond and I would like to thank those who have stepped up to the plate and adopted a needy senior or donated money.  These students are more excited about the fact someone cared enough to “adopt” them than they were about getting their cap and gown paid for.  This class has many homeless/unaccompanied youth who did not think having a cap and gown was a reality.  We thank you in advance, as these children’s lives have been changed forever.  They have worked long and hard for graduation and they deserve it!

School Web-Site

Keep updated on Heron Happenings at www.bchsherons.com.

A Special Thank You

Thank you for your generous donations: Mr. and Mrs. Davison, Herff-Jones, Thomas Gibson (Class of 77’), Hoboken Elementary School, Nahunta Elementary School Student Council to the Attendance: It Pays! Incentive Program, BCHS Teacher and Employee of the Month Program or BCHS Needy Students. If you are interested in donating to the student attendance incentive, please contact Mrs. Cummings at 462-5121.

Attention Parents: Call in Absences

If your child is going to be absent please call the school between 8a.m and 8:20a.m. with the students’ name, dates out and reason.  This will help out tremendously with daily parental contact. The school office number is 462-5121.

HOSA (Health Occupational Students of America)

The BCHS HOSA club will help sponsor a Blood Drive on December 6, during the Brantley County Christmas Parade.  The Mobile Blood Drive Van will be located somewhere in downtown Brantley County.  The Blood Drive will be on a “walk-in” basis. More information will follow.

School Supplies

Parents, please make sure your children have adequate pencils and paper.  Some students are running low.  We do not want lack of school supplies to become a barrier for any of our students.  If you are a business that has pencils (with your logo) and are willing to donate in exchange for free advertisement, please send them to BCHS in the attention of Mrs. Cummings. I will make sure they go to students/teachers that need them.

Congratulations to October Teacher/Employee of Month

Mr. E

Joseph Brian Eichfeld was born and raised in New Jersey.  He has lived in Georgia since 1996. He has taught at BCHS for 13 years.  He currently teaches 7 chemistry classes and is the assistant wrestling coach.  He has one daughter named Kayleigh Sky who attends Waynesville Elementary School.  He is engaged to Ms. Tara Thrift of Schlatterville.  He is an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, enjoys academia, music, sports and riding his Harley Davidson!

Ms. Denise Smith

Mrs. Smith has served as the Special Education Clerk at BCHS for the past four years. She is responsible for scheduling meetings with parents and teachers and reviewing/distributing records. She enjoys being a part of BCHS and is a 1982 graduate. She loves being close to her family. The most satisfying part of her job includes the students she has daily contact with and the Special Education Teachers she works with.

Posted on Nov. 13 2008, 12:41 pm by momnurse76
I don't know much about her history as we picked her up off of a back country road...We have wormed her and fattened her up but I don't know anything about her shot records and stuff like that.\She is 100% house trained, somewhat timid when around loud sudden noises but recovers quickly with love and affection,  loves ANY attention she gets and will sit there all day if you just pet her. I think she was either penned up alot during her young puppyhood or hit on by someone, but she is still such a lover. She is very gentle with kids. I have a 7 yr old and a 12 yr old and she loves their attention. She doesn't even try to jump up on them, but sits when she wants their attention and when being petted. I have 3 other small type dogs. My dominating female Chihuahua shows her who is boss and she has no problems with it, she just does her own thing when Tink growls at her. I have a 6mth old Shitzu/Chi mix whom she loves to play and wrestle with. I have a 3 yr old male Peekapoo who she loves to play chase with in the yard. They all get along great except she has to wait her turn when eating and she has no problem with that. She is so non-aggressive with everything, not an agressive bone in her body unless she has a chewie and the others want it, she MIGHT growl a little. She loves being inside, just sleeping on the couch, but also likes being outside and chasing rabbits out of the yard, so if you live in town, I would leash her or make sure you have a fenced area for her. We have been feeding her Beniful from Purina and I bathed her and put Advantix on her last Tuesday...Thats about all I can tell you about her.All I ask is that you please love her, give her a great home, get her current on her shots, and have her spayed to help reduce the pet overpopulation. I would keep her here, but I already have 3 babies and they are enough. Please let me know asap! 282-0519
