CONFEDERATE GRAVE MARKER DEDICATION FOR JOHN HENRY SAPP

UDC Lawton-Gordon-Evans Brigade Chapter #2637 announces that a Confederate grave marker dedication service will be held at 3:00 P. M., Sunday, November 23. 2008, at Spring Hill Cemetery in Brantley County for Confederate John Henry Sapp who was born 7 Mar 1837 in Appling County, and died 27 Feb 1901 in Pierce County (now Brantley).  
The UDC Chapter will be assisted by members of Capt. James Knox “Seaboard Guards” SCV Camp #2022.  Com. Tom Lavender is expected to Emcee the program with participation of the Re-Enactors.  
Confederate Sapp was the son of Bartley Washington Sapp and Rachel Ritch Sapp.  His wife was the former Nancy Eason and they had nine children:  Jane Rilla (or Rita), married A. B Crews; William Eason, married Sophronia Hatcher; Georgia Ann, married James Washington Allen; Prussia Malinda “Linda,” married John D. Dowling; Mary Electra, married Thomas Crews; Bartley Washington (died age 14), Owen George, married Minnie Hall, Abraham Elijah “Deke,” married Mary Ann Raulerson, and Arnette (died young).
Spring Hill Cemetery is located north of Hoboken.  From the intersection of Hwy. 82 and the Raybon Rock Road at Hoboken, go north 3.9 miles, turn left on Keene Road and go 0.5 mile.  Turn left on Ferry Road, go about 100 feet, and turn right on Spring Hill Road. The cemetery is on the right.  This cemetery is also known as Hanchey Cemetery.
Descendants and friends are invited to attend.  We urge the descendants to let their family members know about this historical event.
Refreshments will be served immediately following the service.  Please bring a chair.
